We’ve been back on the island now for a couple of days. It is so good to be back, we’ve had to give the boat a major refit after 10 years of faithful service but its meant we have been stuck in town for weeks now. It really is not for us, makes us realise how lucky we are to have Wilderness Island. It is such a welcome retreat from the busy life.
Anyway, now we are flat out getting the camp ready for opening on April 1st. Lots of cleaning to do and a few new projects as well.
Two of my friends gave me a pizza oven for my birthday back in Feb so one of our jobs has been to build the base to put the oven on. No easy feat as the oven is huge, 1.5m x 1.2m. Apparently we will be able to cook a whole sheep in it,,,, !, which is what we plan to do at least once every month for the Exmouth crew weekend getaways.
My mate Buzz came out to build the base as he is a bit of an expert stone layer. He has done a beautiful job on the stonework so now we just have to slide the oven into place when it arrives.
We put the base right on the cliff face down in the fire area and we’ve been watching a pair of Manta Rays swim past about the same time every morning. Went down and had a swim with them a couple of times. These Manta’s arrive for a couple of months every year around this time of year.
We’ll put up some photos when the new oven gets here. Cheers all.
