John Dale visit Wilderness Island

with No Comments

We have had the pleasure of having John Dale, the Aboriginal custodian for this area, out to Wilderness Island again. His late father Syd Dale was very generous in giving me this piece of land to develop the Wilderness Island camp. He also passed on the responsibility to me of being the caretaker for the eastern Exmouth Gulf region. This is the first time John has been back since we did the heritage survey with his father, and I was very excited to show him all we had done. John was very happy with the way we had built the camp and he really enjoyed the short time we were able to spend back on his fathers old country. We had a bit of a chance to do a bit of fishing too which is always nice when you catch up with old friends. We had a big Barra swim right past where we were fishing but unfortunately he ignored everything we threw at him. We managed to get some nice mangrove jacks though and sent John home with a feed for him and his missus. We never let anyone take fish home with them but John and his family have a much longer history with this country than we do so what right do I have to refuse a bit of tucker. Hope you enjoy it John. It was great to spend time 'on country' again with the traditional land owner. A very rare privilege.
